Some students need to complete this activity for tomorrow. Just a reminder that we have a short week because there is no school on Friday, February 1st. We had a discussion today about some issues that we have been having with students bringing personal belongings to school. To solve these issues as a class we have decided that students will not be allowed to bring any personal belongings from home. This includes pencil cases, pencils, erasers, stuffies etc. We have all the materials that we require in the classroom so students will use the supplied materials. Thank you.
The students have a field trip form in their blue folders for a trip to the Jack Singer Hall on February 5, 2019. They will be watching a performance in the morning. We will depart the school at 9am and will return around noon. Students will eat lunch with their class when they return to school. The cost of the field trip is $20. Please return the forms signed and make payment by January 31st. We will also require 4-5 volunteers for each class so please email your teacher if you are able to help out on Feb. 5th. Thank you
Please see our word list for this week. Students will be practicing these words with a variety of activities throughout the week.
We are reading A Boy Called Bat for our read aloud. Ask your child what has happened so far in the book. During our read aloud we are practicing making inferences using clues from the book and our prior knowledge. In math we have been working on increasing patterns. The students have been exploring Hearing and Sound in Science. During Social Studies we are starting our research for one of the countries, Peru, India, Tunisia or Ukraine. Students will choose a country to research to find information needed to write a version of Cinderella for the country they research. The students have been using their knowledge of patterns to create art using tessellations. In math, we have been practicing increasing patterns using problems and identifying pattern rules.
Today the students used Google slides to create a poster using one word to represent their goals for 2019. Students can show their One Word slide at home and discuss with their parents about why they choose that word. We have started a new novel study, A Boy Called Bat, and we have been focusing on making inferences by looking for clues in what the author wrote and our prior knowledge. The students are working on writing diary entries from Bat's perspective to write about what happened and how they think Bat felt In Social Studies we have been exploring Fairy Tales. We have read traditional Cinderella Fairy Tales and we will now be reading different versions from other countries. Next week we will begin researching India, Peru, Ukraine or Tunisia to use the facts about the countries to write our own version of Cinderella from one of the countries. Students will be studying gymnastics during Phys Ed from Wednesday, January 9th till Thursday, January 31st. *Please wear clothing that is easy to move in and comfortable. Sweats and a t-shirt are great clothing options (Remembering not to have TOO loose of a top on)
*Please no dresses or skirts *If you have long hair please try your best to have it in a ponytail so that it does not go in your face Happy New Year! The students are back and ready to learn. We started this morning with our new words for word work. Please see the list of words below we started writing an exaggeration story using an event from their holiday. Ask your child what they are writing about for their exaggeration story. In Science, the students did a pre-assessment on the ipads to check what they already know about Hearing and Sound.
Today is Ukrainian Christmas so we created a visual journal page to show what we know about Ukrainian Christmas, Holy Supper, table setting and traditions. Below is a link for a game that the students started to play today to begin learning about patterns. |
