Our sight words are: didn't, car, morning, body, upon A big thank you to the volunteers who helped out with TInker School last week! It was a fantastic week and our students and parents learned a lot about Scratch, 3D printers, Makey Makey, microbits and designed thinking. We watched some of the Harry Potter trailers that Mr. Neiger/Miss Kowal's class created last week. Alot of time and planning went into making these trailers. We started learning about Rocks and Minerals today. We will be going on a field trip on May 2nd to the Glenbow Museum to further our learning about rocks and minerals. We are continuing our research and writing a biography on Google Slides about an extraordinary person that each student chose to research. In math, we are continuing to practice our skills in division and reviewing multiplication using multi step word problems. We have been learning strategies for making inferences when reading. We started a book today called, "Two Bad Ants" . It's a great book for making inferences. We have learned that when we make inferences we think about our schema(prior knowledge), evidence in the text to make logical conclusions(inferences). While your child is reading at home, have them start practicing making inferences and explaining what they know and the evidence they read to make the inference. REMINDER: Thursday April 18th is a half day so students will be dismissed at noon. There is no school on Friday April 19th and Monday April 22nd. As Mrs Cooper's class will be away all week at Tinker School our class will be working on some special projects. Students have been working in groups to plan for a 'Harry Potter movie trailer' that they are going to be creating. Students planned in their groups a list of props that they are going to look for around the house to bring to school for the week. PLEASE do not feel obligated to purchase anything new at the store, we are happy to adapt, share and create whatever we need. Students may be looking for white button up shirts, ties, cloaks/capes/large black sweaters, broomsticks, etc.
We are looking toward to a fun and exciting week. REMINDER: Thursday April 18th is early dismissal at 12 pm, no school on Friday April 19 and Monday April 20
The students are back to work and ready to continue with their learning after Spring Break. They got new words last week which are posted below. We have been working on our question, "How can you change the ordinary to extraordinary" and have been exploring people that have done extraordinary things to make a difference. Each student has chosen one person to research and then will be doing a slideshow to make a biography. Ask your child who they are researching as their difference maker. In writing, he students are writing about what they would like to be able to do to make a difference. In math we are continuing to focus on doing multi-step problems using multiplication and division. In art, the students are learning about the 7 elements of art and this week they are creating a color wheel in their visual journal to show the primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Miss Kowal/Mr Neiger's class will be walking to the pond across the street on Thursday afternoon with our Grade 1 Buddy Class. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately. Mrs. Cooper's class is going to Tinker School April 8-12. Please return the completed field trip forms that were handed out before spring break by Friday. Payment for the field trip must be made by Friday, April, 5th. |
